Description
Hotpacks
When a Hotpack is new it will require longer soaking than normal and will absorb up to three times its own volume of water. Place the hot packs in the heating unit. Make sure that the water covers the body of the hot pack and bring to a boil. Allow to simmer for at least half an hour. Once the hot pack has been soaked it will need only about 10 minutes to prepare for use. Fold a heavy Turkish towel into four or six-folds and place it on the area to be treated. Carefully remove the hot pack from the water by the loops, wrap it in another towel, and place it on top of the folded towel.
The steam will penetrate the towel layers and provide effective moist heat for about 30 minutes. To minimise heat loss upwards, cover the application with another towel. If too much heat is being received increase the number of layers of towel between the hot pack and the treatment area. As the heat subsides, reduce the number of layers.
Hotpack Heater
The unit is made of stainless steel and supplied with a basket and support hooks for standard hot pack bags, it is fitted with a safety thermostat.
Precautions
During normal operation, the hot pack heater will become hot. Precautions must be taken to avoid accidental burns. It is recommended that suitable protective wear is issued to the user to minimise the risk of scalds or contact with drips from hot hot packs.
Do not allow the heater to run dry or boil continuously. Turn the heater off when not in use.
